UK Lotto started in 19 November 1994 under the name ‘National Lottery’ and since then has made over 2300 millionaires. Draws happen two times a week, every Wednesdays and Saturdays.
From 10 June 2026, UK Lotto features two separate draws every draw night — Round 1 and Round 2 — held back-to-back on every Wednesday and Saturday. Every ticket is automatically entered in both rounds at no extra cost, giving you two independent chances to win per draw night.
During the draw, six numbered balls are drawn from a set of 59 balls numbered from 1 to 59. An additional Bonus Ball is also drawn, which is significant only for players who match five numbers.
The largest jackpot won to date by a single ticket was £22,590,829 on 10 June 1995 and the largest jackpot as of October 2013 was £42,008,610 won by three people on 6 January 1996.
On 5 October 2013, ‘New Lotto’ was launched, one of the biggest changes to the game that also features a Guaranteed Millionaire Raffle on selected draws, guaranteeing at least one new millionaire every draw.
Match all 6 numbers to win the jackpot. If more than one ticket matches all 6 numbers, the jackpot is shared equally. If the jackpot is not won, it rolls over to the next draw up to a maximum of 5 consecutive rollovers. On the 5th rollover the draw becomes a “Must Be Won” draw.

There are 6 prize tiers offered on each UK Lotto draw. The table below shows the breakdown of prize categories, estimated prize amount and approximate odds of winning.
| Prize Category | Round 1 prize | Round 2 prize |
|---|---|---|
| Match 6 | A share of the jackpot | A share of the jackpot |
| Match 5 plus Bonus Number | £1,000,000 | £1,000,000 |
| Match 5 | £1,000 | £1,000 |
| Match 4 | £50 | £50 |
| Match 3 | £10 | £10 |
| Match 2 | £1 | £1 |
From 10 June 2026, the Match 2 prize is £1 cash per round. Since every ticket is checked against both Round 1 and Round 2, a Match 2 win in either round pays £1. Rounds are counted independently.
From 10 June 2026, the jackpot pool is shared between all Match 6 winners from Round 1 and Round 2 combined. The jackpot rolls over if no ticket matches 6 numbers in either round, up to 5 consecutive rollovers.
The jackpot can roll over up to 5 consecutive times. On a Must Be Won draw, if no ticket from either round matches all 6 main numbers, each Match 2 winner receives an additional £5 on top of their usual £1, and any remaining jackpot funds are distributed among Match 3, Match 4, Match 5 and Match 5+Bonus winners.
